Tiny Chihuahua Travels the World: Meet Luke Tailwagger
Rescued in Los Angeles, Luke Tailwagger proves that life can begin at ten.
Luke Tailwagger, a spirited 13-year-old Chihuahua, has captured hearts everywhere by exploring the world from the comfort of bags he fits into. Rescued during a thunderstorm in 2015, he quickly formed a bond with his owner, Niki Banchero, who realized right away that Luke was special. He jumped into her purse before she could even open the car door at the shelter.
From beaches to mountains, Luke has traveled far and wide, embraced in various bags on his adventures. Videoclips shared by Banchero show him enjoying life on cruise ships, trains, boats, and even the Ferris wheel in Santa Monica.
Banchero affectionately refers to Luke as her “little pocket pup,” stating that he is happiest when he’s on the move. “If he sees an open bag, he knows we’re going somewhere new,” she explained. Even at 13, Luke remains energetic, embodying the enthusiasm of a puppy.
Now residing in Italy, Banchero praises the country for its dog-friendly culture, with airlines treating pets like royalty. Luke’s story beautifully illustrates that rescue dogs can live fulfilling lives with love, adventure, and companionship.
