Global debut of a completely gluten-free ocean cruise launching in 2028, featuring 11 dining options.

World’s First Fully Gluten-Free Ocean Cruise Set to Sail in 2028

For travelers with celiac disease and gluten intolerances, finding safe food options can be a significant challenge, especially on cruises where buffets dominate the dining experience. However, a new venture aims to change that narrative. Celiac Cruise, in collaboration with luxury liner Oceania Cruises, is set to launch the world’s first completely gluten-free ocean cruise, aboard the Oceania Vista, from May 31 to June 12, 2028. The cruise will explore the scenic British Isles, including England, Ireland, and Scotland.

Why Celiac Cruise?

Maureen Basye, the founder of Celiac Cruise, created this initiative after recognizing the struggles her husband and son faced when traveling, particularly on cruise ships that offered limited gluten-free options. “You have to make a big fuss and talk to the server and maître d’,” Basye told Travel+Leisure. The new cruise aims to relieve those concerns, allowing vacationers to enjoy their time without worrying about food restrictions.

Meeting the Needs of Celiac Travelers

An estimated 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease, although research suggests the overall prevalence could be as high as 6% when including those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity. This new cruise option provides a dedicated experience for these individuals.

Since its founding in 2018, Celiac Cruise has arranged over 30 gluten-free cruises in partnership with cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and AmaWaterways. The idea is to offer a hassle-free dining experience where all culinary options are safe for those with gluten sensitivities.

Features of the Oceania Vista Cruise

The Oceania Vista will offer 11 gluten-free-friendly restaurants and eliminate all gluten-containing products on board. The collaboration deepened Oceania’s understanding of the celiac community and crafted a seamless travel experience. Nathan Hickman, the SVP and Chief Sales Officer for Oceania Cruises, stated, “Their deep passion and expertise helped us design and to ultimately deliver what will be a first-of-its-kind, fully dedicated gluten-free voyage.”

Cruisers will also enjoy access to a private dining liaison and a medical center staffed by licensed professionals for any health concerns during the journey.

Conclusion

With the rise of gluten intolerance diagnoses, the Celiac Cruise is pioneering a new era in cruise travel, offering a safe and enjoyable experience specifically tailored for individuals with dietary restrictions.
