Symptoms typically appear six hours to six days after exposure and include:
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Stomach cramps
Though most healthy individuals recover within four to seven days without treatment, vulnerable populations (children under 5, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems) may face more severe illness. Serious symptoms warrant immediate medical attention, such as:
- Diarrhea with a fever over 102°F
- Prolonged diarrhea lasting more than three days
- Inability to keep liquids down due to vomiting
- Signs of dehydration (e.g., low urine output, dry mouth and throat, dizziness)
For more information, refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
