A maker of organic baby formula, ByHeart, is recalling some products linked to a 10-state infant botulism outbreak. The recall affects two lots of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula with Dec. 1 “use by” dates. So far, 13 infants have been hospitalized after consuming the formula, but there have been no reported deaths.
The FDA urges parents to check the lot numbers (206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2) and dispose of the affected product. Symptoms of infant botulism include poor feeding, constipation, and potentially severe complications like paralysis.
ByHeart stated that no direct link has been established between their formula and the botulism cases, and tests are ongoing to identify sources of contamination. The company is committed to removing any potential risks from the market, emphasizing the safety of its products, which comprise less than 1% of baby formula sales in the U.S.
