New Kosher Smash Burger Ghost Kitchen “Shmash” Opens in NYC

Discover a new culinary gem on the Upper East Side, where kosher dining takes a delicious turn. Opened in late February, Shmash on Lexington Avenue is shaking up the local scene with delectable smash burgers and an impressive culinary pedigree. The concept may seem simple, but the artistry and technique behind each dish elevate it far beyond the average burger experience.

Fine Dining Technique Meets the Smash Burger

At the helm of Shmash is Executive Chef Guy Kairi, who brings two decades of fine dining experience to the table. Eager to create an exceptional burger, he has crafted a unique kosher dining experience focused on smash burgers, utilizing the highest standards of culinary craftsmanship. The beef is dry-aged on-site, the meat blend is freshly ground each day, and the milkshakes are crafted from house-made, dairy-free ice cream. This is not your typical burger joint; Shmash represents the perfect fusion of quality and creativity.

What’s on the Menu

The menu features a diverse array of burgers, beginning with the classic Shmash, which includes a single smash patty topped with vegan cheddar and a special house shmear. The standout option, the Black Label Shmash, boasts a double patty accompanied by lamb bacon, caramelized onions, and fresh tomato. For those craving a West Coast experience, there’s a double patty option with lamb bacon, creamy avocado, and jalapeño mayo. Also available is a dry-aged grilled burger for those who prefer a more traditional approach.

Not to be outdone, schnitzel takes its place on the menu with equal significance. The Ribeye Schnitzel, a delicate thin-cut of breaded ribeye served with a Korean spicy shmear, is a must-try. It’s offered both as a sandwich and as a full plate with hand-cut fries. Additionally, loaded fries topped with lamb bacon, caramelized onions, vegan cheddar, and mixed mushrooms provide a delightful shareable side that’s too good to pass up.

Delivery and Pickup Only

Shmash operates as a ghost kitchen, focusing exclusively on delivery and pickup services, eliminating the traditional sit-down dining experience. Customers can conveniently place their orders through an online system.

A Familiar Address Gets a New Life

Operating as a ghost kitchen out of the Rothschild TLV kitchen, Shmash shares its location on Lexington Avenue. Rothschild TLV remains open for service, while Shmash caters directly to delivery and pickup orders from the same well-managed, OU-certified kitchen. Customers can place orders easily via their online system or over the phone.

Shmash is located at 1129 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10075. The kitchen is open Sunday to Thursday from 12 PM to 10 PM and is closed on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is certified kosher under the OU.
