Celebrating My Father’s Retirement
Today, I want to take a moment to honor my dad, Matthew Tossell, as he embarks on a new chapter in life after an impressive 43 years with his firm. For perspective, that’s a staggering 40 years longer than my longest stint in a job—Ben’s Bites has been my only project lasting more than two years! 😯
My dad has been my greatest teacher when it comes to hard work. He has transformed his law firm multiple times over four decades and most recently led the charge in adopting AI (I might have nudged him that way 😉). In a heartfelt note I wrote him today—much like the one he penned for me when I sold my first company—I’ve kept the emotional bits private. Happy retirement, Dad! I know you’re reading this—you’ve always been my biggest fan, and the feeling is mutual.
While ‘retirement’ for him might mean starting new ventures, joining university boards, and working with the Cardiff Business Council, I’m excited to see what else he will accomplish.
Embracing AI Technology
On the subject of AI, I’ve dived deep into this realm and am becoming quite fond of Codex. Initially intimidated by the terminal, I now use it daily. It’s really a conversation with AI, which has made things much more approachable. I recently experimented with the Codex app for various tasks and found it surprisingly enjoyable. Although I still appreciate the ease of having multiple tabs open, I love the Chat | Files (or browser) view—something I never had before with the terminal.
This morning, I even built a dinosaur jumping game for Max and Arabella! I also set up a Gmail learning system to manage how I label and archive my emails, along with an automation process. I’ve revamped my memory management by compiling tons of bookmarks and YouTube transcripts for easy reference. I organize everything in a main folder titled ‘bites,’ which holds my everyday instructions:
- It communicates with me in a tailored manner, remembers my preferences, and knows how to behave.
- I maintain a running ‘to-do’ list that I address daily, alongside a corresponding ‘TODOS.md’ file.
I’m eagerly awaiting a mobile version to streamline workflows even further. Working with AI agents opens up possibilities for streamlined file access and controls. I’m enthusiastic about continuing to utilize these tools for both everyday tasks and programming. However, for serious coding projects, I still rely on the terminal.
Upcoming Events and Innovations
Ben’s Bites is excited to announce that we will be part of Ai4 2026—America’s largest AI conference! Join over 12,000 attendees and engage with more than 1,000 speakers and 400 exhibits in Las Vegas from August 4-6. This is a great opportunity to hear case studies from Fortune 500 executives on AI agents, generative AI, and more, with keynotes from industry leaders like Geoffrey Hinton, Fei-Fei Li, and Andrew Ng. Don’t miss out—register now!
Moreover, Cloudflare has introduced the capability for agents to create accounts, purchase domains, and deploy applications directly. Agents can now provision a Cloudflare account, start subscriptions, register domains, obtain API tokens, and deploy, all without cumbersome admin tasks—humans still approve terms, but the setup has become much more accessible. This shift allows less technical users to build effectively without getting bogged down by backend services.
Stripe has also unveiled a variety of new features, including an Agentic Commerce Suite, Link’s wallet for agents, streaming payment capabilities, and agent-ready Treasury accounts. They’ve introduced a Link CLI, enabling agents to generate one-time use payment credentials from their Link wallet while keeping real card details secure.
Further Innovations in AI
Exciting developments continue with the Cursor SDK, allowing users to build agents using the same infrastructure that powers Cursor. Users can construct automations for workflows or integrate agents into their products. Additionally, Lightfield, a new AI-native CRM, just launched Skills, which enables users to create workflows in plain English and execute them with a single command, streamlining operations across various data points.
Building applications has never been more enjoyable, especially with tools like GPT-5.5 and GPT-Image-2 coding workshops. The fascination with self-modifying software continues to grow, and many industry experts, including Fred Wilson and Martin Fowler, share insights about the evolving coding landscape.
Other notable innovations include:
- Poolside’s release of public models for agentic coding.
- here.now’s introduction of private cloud storage for agents alongside instant web publishing.
- Sandcastle, an open-sourced software factory by Matt Pocock.
- Quick by Amazon, which integrates with various platforms to automate tasks.
Conclusion
The landscape of technology, particularly AI, is ever-evolving, and it’s exhilarating to be part of this disruptive field. From honoring my father’s retirement to exploring new tools that enhance productivity, every step forward is a testament to the power of innovation. Here’s to new beginnings and the adventures ahead!
