Apple is gearing up to launch significant enhancements with the upcoming releases of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. This latest update is expected to address system bugs and elevate the functionality of Apple Intelligence. Notably, improvements to the AI capabilities may extend beyond just a restructured Siri assistant. According to a report from Bloomberg, the new software updates will introduce innovative AI-driven photo editing tools, enabling users to modify elements like background and image framing.
The existing Photos app across Apple devices allows for various adjustments, including saturation, contrast, filters, and even object removal through the Clean Up tool. Following the new updates, the Clean Up tool will be accompanied by several “Apple Intelligence Tools,” as reported by Bloomberg. These include “Extend,” which allows the background to be expanded using generative AI, “Enhance” for automatic improvements in lighting and image quality, and “Reframe,” which adjusts the perspective of photos, particularly benefiting Apple’s spatial photos.
If these features are released, they will align Apple’s photo-editing capabilities more closely with those of competitors like Google and Samsung. However, both companies currently have greater capabilities in generating completely new images. For instance, Google’s Magic Editor feature, launched in 2023, stands out for its ability to provide users with extensive options for altering their photos dramatically.
In addition to the revamped photo editing capabilities, Apple is anticipated to unveil an updated version of Siri that leverages Google’s Gemini models, which will offer features such as a standalone Siri app and AI-enhanced search integrated into various applications. Many of these new offerings are likely to be presented during the upcoming WWDC keynote on June 8.
