A recent randomized clinical trial published in the Academic Journal of Sports Science & Medicine reveals that a specific supplement can enhance GLP-1 levels by 13% after just seven days of use. This finding highlights the supplement’s potential benefits for weight management and athletic performance.
“The new research further solidifies Capsimax’s appeal in the expanding sectors of weight management and sports nutrition,” stated Harkirat Singh, category manager for sports nutrition and weight management at OmniActive. “It supports GLP-1 activity and metabolism crucial for weight wellness while enhancing exercise intensity and muscle endurance. Its low-dose, non-stimulant formulation provides a versatile option for both performance and wellness purposes.”
The company reports that Capsimax has been investigated in six previous human clinical studies, demonstrating its advantages in metabolism support, appetite control, and fat breakdown (lipolysis). This latest research further establishes Capsimax’s role in promoting natural GLP-1 activity, an area attracting increasing scientific and commercial attention.
Mitigating Oxidative Stress
During physical activity, the body’s physiological stress results in energy expenditure while also producing reactive oxygen species. These by-products of mitochondrial respiration and muscle contraction contribute to oxidative stress. Furthermore, prolonged or high-intensity training can lead to microtrauma in muscle fibers, resulting in inflammation and a temporary dip in the immune response.
Plant-based compounds such as polyphenols, terpenoids, and alkaloids possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory properties, which can complement traditional macronutrient-focused recovery strategies.
“By reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, these plant-based supplements may facilitate muscle recovery, lessen fatigue, and enhance energy utilization during subsequent exercise sessions,” the researchers noted. “Athletes and active individuals increasingly opt for these natural alternatives to synthetic or pharmaceutical products to boost endurance, strength, and overall performance while minimizing potential side effects.”
However, not all forms of supplementation yield positive results. Nutritional deficiencies may arise from inadequate dietary intake or excessive physical exertion.
“Evidence-based supplementation using standardized plant-derived formulations represents a promising method to support metabolic balance, enhance recovery, and sustain performance,” the researchers explained. “These insights form a basis for exploring the roles of specific botanical compounds, such as capsaicinoids, in enhancing endurance and muscle performance in trained individuals.”
Capsaicinoids, the primary bioactive components in chili peppers, exhibit thermogenic, fat-burning, and appetite-suppressing effects. Capsimax, derived from Capsicum annuum and containing 2% capsaicinoids, has been shown to suppress appetite, enhance serum markers associated with fat breakdown, and improve body composition. Research indicates that it can boost physical performance while alleviating fatigue in mice.
Study Details
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study evaluated the effects of 100 mg of Capsimax on 40 resistance-trained men over a week-long supplementation period. The study assessed various measures, including exercise performance, resting energy expenditure (REE), and GLP-1 levels. Exercises performed included barbell back squats, squat tests, standard push-ups, and agility tasks, with additional evaluations for fatigue and pain levels.
Results showed participants experienced significant improvements in peak force, rate of force development, peak and average power, and peak velocity during resistance training. Additionally, muscular endurance improved in push-up and squat performance tests, and there was a noted increase in resting energy expenditure (REE). Elevated circulating GLP-1 levels among participants suggest that Capsimax can enhance athletic performance and confer metabolic benefits under acute conditions.
“Our findings underscore what sets Capsimax apart from typical capsaicin-based ingredients,” stated Kratika Gupta, senior vice president of global marketing at OmniActive.
“Capsimax offers thermogenic and metabolic benefits effectively and without the harsh sensory effects typically associated with capsaicin, making it suitable for daily use. This characteristic allows brands to leverage the advantages of capsaicin in a more consumer-friendly format.”
