Introducing Amarillo’s New Outdoor Fitness Initiative
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Exciting news for fitness enthusiasts in Amarillo! The city’s Parks and Recreation Department has unveiled plans for a new Fitness Court at John Ward Memorial Park. This innovative outdoor facility aims to promote an active lifestyle by providing free, full-body workouts.
In partnership with the National Fitness Campaign, the Fitness Court is designed to deliver a comprehensive workout in just seven minutes. Visitors can expect to engage in various exercises divided into seven distinct zones: core, squat, push, lunge, pull, agility, and bend.
What sets this Fitness Court apart is its dual function: it also serves as a canvas showcasing the talents of local artists. The project welcomes digital artwork submissions from Amarillo residents, aged 14 and older, to decorate the court’s multipurpose training wall. This initiative not only enhances the workout environment but also fosters community engagement through the arts.
If you’re interested in contributing artwork for this project, be sure to email your submissions to Beautification and Public Arts Coordinator, Cindy Perez, before the deadline of 5 p.m. on May 8, 2026. You can find detailed submission guidelines here.
