If you regularly take vitamin C supplements, now is a good time to examine the label more closely. A number of popular vitamin C products have been recalled due to the presence of undeclared ingredients, as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to the FDA’s announcement, two batches of Vital Nutrients Aller-C supplements were recalled by Blueroot Health due to the potential inclusion of egg, hazelnut, and soy, which were not listed on the product label. The FDA warns that “Individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to egg, hazelnut, or soy may face a serious or even life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume these supplements.
Here’s what you need to know.
Which products are affected by the recall?
All recalled supplements were produced by Blueroot Health and sold in white plastic bottles, either containing 100 or 200 capsules. Check your cabinet for the following:
-
200-count bottles of Vital Nutrients Aller-C with lot number 25E04-B
-
100-count bottles of Vital Nutrients Aller-C with lot numbers 25E04-A or 25E04-B
All recalled bottles have an expiration date of 05/27. These supplements were distributed across the country through Vital Nutrients and various online retailers. For more information, including UPC codes for the affected products, consult the FDA’s enforcement report.
What should I do with a recalled product?
If you’ve purchased any of the recalled supplements, the FDA strongly recommends that you discontinue use immediately, regardless of any allergies or sensitivities you may have to the undeclared ingredients. You can return the product to Blueroot Health for a replacement bottle. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out via email at support@vitalnutrients.co or by calling (888) 328-9992. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled supplements, if you experience any adverse reactions, seek medical attention promptly.
