Meta Launches AI Tools to Boost User Support and Combat Scams

Meta recently unveiled an innovative AI support assistant integrated into its applications to provide constant, actionable support. This development marks a significant advancement in user experience and content moderation.

Meta has introduced cutting-edge AI tools aimed at enhancing support services and content moderation across its range of applications. By harnessing the latest technological advancements, the company seeks to deliver reliable assistance while improving its ability to detect significant policy breaches, such as fraudulent activities, with enhanced accuracy and fewer instances of over-enforcement.

Global Deployment

After a preview in December, the AI support assistant is rolling out globally. This feature is now accessible on Facebook and Instagram for both iOS and Android devices in supported regions, as well as through desktop Help Centers. It is designed to provide 24/7 support, assisting users in resolving account-related issues from start to finish.

While the assistant can handle general questions about platform features or notifications, it is also equipped to perform specific tasks directly on Facebook, with Instagram capabilities coming soon. These tasks include:

  • Reporting fraudulent activity, impersonation, or content violations;
  • Clarifying content removals, outlining appeal options, and tracking status;
  • Adjusting privacy settings;
  • Resetting passwords;
  • Updating profile information.

The Meta AI support assistant is seamlessly integrated into the apps, providing responses in under five seconds, significantly cutting down wait times compared to manual Help Center searches. Initial user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the feature is being made available in all languages supported by Facebook and Instagram for assistance topics.

Furthermore, Meta has initiated a rollout of login assistance for select cases in the U.S. and Canada, with plans for broader international expansion. The company is committed to advancing this technology as user interaction increases.

Enhancing Content Enforcement Through Advanced AI

Meta is also redefining its safety protocols by testing and deploying advanced AI systems. These systems are designed to quickly and accurately identify harmful content—including scams, fraud, drug-related activities, child exploitation, and terrorism—more effectively than previous approaches.

Internal testing of these advanced systems has produced notable results:

  • Daily identification and mitigation of 5,000 scam attempts that had previously evaded human review;
  • An 80% drop in user reports of impersonation involving high-profile individuals and celebrities;
  • Detection of adult sexual solicitation at double the rate of human reviewers, while also reducing error rates by over 60%;
  • Prevention of account takeovers by identifying clusters of suspicious activities that individual human reviewers might overlook;
  • Detection of fraudulent websites posing as legitimate retailers, leading to a 7% decrease in views of scam-related advertisements.

These advanced AI models now support languages spoken by 98% of the online population, an increase from the previous support for around 80 languages. They are designed to adapt to cultural nuances, regional slang, and emerging code words.

Strategic Shift in Operations

In the coming years, Meta will continue to implement these advanced systems as they consistently outperform traditional enforcement methods. This shift will reduce reliance on third-party vendors for content moderation, allowing Meta to strengthen its internal workforce and systems. AI will take over repetitive tasks like reviewing graphic content and monitoring rapidly evolving tactics used in scams and illegal sales.

Yet, despite the move toward automation, human oversight remains a crucial element of Meta’s strategy. Experts will continue to drive the design, training, and assessment of AI systems, particularly for critical decisions such as account closure and law enforcement notifications.

Meta is dedicated to rigorously testing these systems to prevent bias and ensure precision. The company’s Community Standards remain unchanged, and new tools like the support assistant will empower users to report violations and challenge decisions. This hybrid approach aims to combine the efficiency of AI with the expert judgment of human specialists to create a safer digital environment.
