Scoggin-Dickey Donates Engines to South Plains College

LUBBOCK, Texas – Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet-Buick has donated four General Motors 5.3L V8 engines to the automotive program at South Plains College (SPC). This contribution was made on September 14 at the SPC Career and Technical Center.

The donation was facilitated by John Zwiacher, dealer principal of Scoggin-Dickey and a long-time advisory board member of SPC’s automotive program. His connection to the college extends back to his father-in-law, John Scoggin, who played a key role in establishing the automotive program in the 1970s.

Zwiacher emphasized the importance of providing students with the necessary equipment to enhance their education in automotive trades, stating, “We’re here to help them get an education in a trade that serves people.”

The donated engines will allow SPC students to train with modern technology currently utilized in General Motors vehicles, thereby preparing them for careers in an evolving automotive industry. Gary Ufford, professor of automotive technology, expressed gratitude for the support from Scoggin-Dickey, noting the long-standing relationship between the dealership and the college.

For individuals interested in supporting SPC students, they can reach out to the College’s Development Office at 806-716-2020 or via email at sgoldie@southplainscollege.edu.
