Fort Lauderdale, FL— Heavy rain impacted Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning, leading to flooded streets and challenging travel conditions. As residents navigated through the downpour, umbrellas became a common sight at bus stops and along busy streets.
For some residents, heavy rainfall brings more than just a soggy commute; it escalates into a serious threat of flooding around their homes. One local near Northwest 13th Street and Ninth Avenue reported that his yard can become submerged during significant rainfall.
The intense downpours also pose a risk of overwhelming storm drains, which leads to water accumulating in streets and low-lying areas. However, as the rain began to diminish, flooding in some neighborhoods started to recede.
Broward County officials reported that all available vacuum trucks have been sent to clear stormwater systems and assist in high-risk flooding areas. They also have pumps prepared to be deployed in low-lying regions, maintaining ongoing flood-control efforts throughout the day.
