Hurricane Isaias Leads to Significant Travel Disruptions and Flight Hold-ups at Charlotte Airport – WSOC TV

Hurricane Isaias Causes Disruptions at Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Charlotte — Hurricane Isaias has made landfall near Destin, Florida, leading to significant travel disruptions and heightened alert for emergency crews.

Flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport experienced substantial impacts, with FlightAware reporting close to 300 flight delays and 40 cancellations. While many passengers managed to depart as scheduled, those heading to Florida faced notable challenges.

Among those affected was Ana Comptis, who had traveled to the area for work. Her return flight to Miami, originally set for 6:45 p.m., has been delayed until noon the next day, forcing her to find temporary lodging. She expressed her frustration: “We were supposed to leave at 6:45 p.m. So now our flight got delayed until tomorrow noon, so we are stuck here staying in a hotel.”

Others opted for alternative means of transportation to avoid missing crucial events. Alesha Hollingeshead faced a cancellation of her flight to Miami while connecting to a cruise. Rather than wait for another flight, she decided to rent a car for the ground trip. “I’m probably not catching my flight; we’re renting a car and were gonna drive to Miami,” she shared, noting her cruise ship is scheduled to depart at 2 p.m. the following day.

Emergency services remain on standby as the storm continues to impact the region.
