Tesla rebrands ‘Full Self-Driving’ in Europe following regulator pressure

Elon Musk’s automaker, Tesla, has renamed its “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” system to “Assisted Driving” in Europe. This change follows criticism from German regulators who labeled the original branding as “somewhat misleading.” The system is still marketed as “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” in the U.S. for $99 per month.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport clarified that Tesla’s FSD is not an autonomous system but a driver assistance feature that requires active driver attention. Tesla is actively seeking approvals in Europe, where EV adoption is increasing amid rising fuel costs.

Additionally, there are ongoing investigations into Tesla’s FSD by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In a related legal case, a California judge ruled that Tesla engaged in deceptive marketing regarding its Autopilot and FSD systems. Tesla is contesting this ruling in court. In its recent earnings update, Tesla reported 1.48 million active FSD subscriptions but did not specify how many were from promotional trials. Tesla has yet to respond to media inquiries regarding these developments.
