Kodiak AI is gearing up for a major milestone in autonomous trucking with plans to launch unsupervised driverless truck services between Dallas and Houston by the end of 2026. The company has been successfully operating a driverless truck program on the busy 219-mile Interstate 45 route, achieving significant progress since its inception.
Don Burnette, Kodiak’s CEO, highlighted the company’s rigorous preparation and trial runs, noting that they have amassed nearly two years of experience in driverless operations involving over 40,000 hours of paid driving without human intervention in the Permian Basin. As of August, their Autonomy Readiness Measure indicated that they were 93% prepared for commercial driverless delivery, aiming to reach full readiness in the coming months.
With ongoing tests and a strong safety record, Kodiak AI is set to further validate its technology for high-speed interstate freight, building on the experiences gathered from its work in the Permian region. For more details, you can check their official announcement here.
