The competition to land President Trump’s proposed Space Academy is intensifying, with Texas emerging as a strong contender. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman highlighted Texas as an ideal location due to its rich aerospace history, boasting Houston as “Space City” and housing significant military bases and universities focused on space research.
In a joint statement, Texas lawmakers emphasized the state’s qualifications, suggesting it has the resources and expertise necessary to cultivate the next generation of Space Force leaders. Gov. Greg Abbott has tasked a team to prepare a proposal, potentially offering $100 million to support the bid.
Isaacman noted that several states, including Florida and California, are also vying for the academy, which aims to educate future leaders in space. He believes the institution could rival the Air Force Academy in size and significance, with plans due by October 26. The recommendation will be made by NASA, but the final decision rests with Trump.
