Message: Reviving the referendum is a commitment to our future.

Letter to the Editor

From: Tyler and Danielle Nickerson
Columbus

We have chosen to build our life in Columbus. We live here, work here, raise our family here, and call this community home. With that choice comes a responsibility to invest in its future.

That is why we will be voting yes to renew the school referendum.

For us, this is not simply about a vote. It is about the people who make our schools what they are.

Every day, teachers and school staff walk into classrooms and invest in our children. They teach them, encourage them, challenge them, celebrate their successes, and help them through their struggles. They see potential in young people who may not yet see it in themselves. The impact of that work cannot always be measured on a test or captured in a statistic, but it can change the direction of a child’s life.

We want our teachers to know that we are willing to invest in them, too.

Strong schools matter far beyond the classroom. They help make Columbus a place where families want to put down roots and where businesses can attract and retain talent. They prepare the next generation of employees, entrepreneurs, volunteers, neighbors, and leaders. Whether or not we have a child in school today, we all have a stake in what happens inside those classrooms.

It is also important to us that this referendum is a renewal. It continues the existing referendum at the same maximum tax rate. We are not being asked to begin something new. We are being asked whether we believe this investment should continue.

We do.

Because community is not simply something we benefit from. It is something we build together.

Someday, our children will inherit the Columbus we are shaping today. We want them to inherit a community that values education, supports the people who dedicate their careers to children, creates opportunities for young people, and understands that its future is connected to theirs.

We all benefit when our schools succeed, and we all have a role in making that possible.

For our family, voting yes is one way we can do our part. It is a continued investment in our teachers, our children, and the future of the community we are proud to call home.
