Airlines That Allow Traveling with Dogs

Dog-Friendly Flights: A New Era of Pet Travel

Airlines like Retrievair and Bark Air are tapping into the growing demand for pet-friendly travel. Retrievair, founded in 2025, is designed to provide a relaxing flying experience for pets and their owners. This service welcomes all signed-up dogs and cats, making frequent stops at private airports across the U.S., including Chicago and Dallas.

While tickets may be pricier than standard flights, pets have dedicated seating, providing ample room to stretch and be comfortable. Dogs are secured with leads during takeoff, landing, and turbulence to ensure safety, with the request that they remain out of aisles.

For most dog owners, air travel can be stressful, often leaving them with limited choices—an option to claim their dog as a service animal or leave their pet behind. Retrievair aims to change that, along with other emerging pet-first airlines.

The Pet Travel Landscape

Retrievair is among a series of new ventures catering to the pet travel niche. For example, Bark Air offers luxury amenities, including spa treatments and gourmet meals for dogs. Similar services like JSX and Aero also provide pet-friendly travel options. Internationally, ITA Airways announced plans for pet tickets on domestic flights, offering dedicated seats for canines.

Unique Passenger Experience

Retrievair passengers enjoy unique perks. With a relaxing boarding process at smaller airports, they avoid long TSA lines, opting for a quick ID check followed by a relaxing flight experience. Passengers revel in customized service, showcasing a trend of airlines aiming to meet rising demands for comfort and personal touches during travel.

On a recent Retrievair flight, dogs waited patiently in a private lounge before boarding, settling into their aircraft seats. As the flight progressed, onboard service included snacks for human passengers, followed by a specially crafted treat routine for the four-legged crew.

Traveling with pets is becoming less of a hassle, and for many dog owners, it’s a welcome change that allows families to stay together while exploring new destinations.
