Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon: A Family-Friendly Destination

Review of Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon

Bintan, Indonesia – Upon arrival, rain showers greeted me, overshadowing my tropical holiday plans. However, with three days and two nights child-free, I was determined to embrace the experience.

Getting There

Traveling from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal took around 70 minutes by ferry, followed by a brief 20-minute drive to the breathtaking Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon. This 408-room beachfront property recently opened on the site of the former Bintan Lagoon Resort.

Family-Friendly Attractions

As a mother of six-year-old twins, I’m always keen on what resorts offer for children. At Movenpick, the Recreation Village serves as the hub for children’s activities, which includes a swimming pool and the Little Birds Club, catering to kids aged one to 12.

The well-designed kids’ club boasts free play areas, a mini indoor playground, nap rooms, and baby-changing facilities. Daily activities include children’s Zumba, origami, and seashell art. The highlight during my visit was the Shell Treasure hunt on the beach, which seemed to bring endless joy to the kids.

For more structured fun, there are paid workshops for cookie and pizza-making, batik painting, and a range of outdoor and arcade games. Notable amenities also include a splashing children’s pool complete with slides and a variety of playgrounds.

Activities for Adults

Parents can enjoy numerous activities like kayaking, batik painting, and rejuvenating spa treatments. The tranquil waters at Sonada Beach Club were perfect for a 30-minute kayaking session, allowing me to disconnect and soak in my surroundings. Kayaking costs approximately 120,000 rupiah for 30 minutes.

After kayaking, I relaxed by the pool and indulged in a batik painting session, which was an enjoyable creative challenge.

The resort also excels in wellness, offering a fabulous 90-minute Balinese massage at Shantara Spa & Wellness. This revitalizing experience is priced at 888,000 rupiah (before taxes).

Spacious Accommodations & Dining

My Deluxe Ocean View Room was a peaceful haven featuring large windows and a private balcony. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making for uninterrupted sleep—a rare luxury.

Dining options include:

  • Port 19: An all-day dining experience featuring a mix of Asian and Western cuisine.
  • Yokatta Izakaya & Bar: A delightful spot for Japanese fare, including sushi and yakitori.
  • Sonada Beach Club: My least favorite, where the menu was limited and underwhelming.

One unique perk of the resort is the daily Chocolate Hour, where guests can enjoy a variety of sweet treats.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I left Bintan rejuvenated and already planning my return, this time with my children. The engaging activities for kids, coupled with relaxing retreats for parents, make Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon an ideal family destination.

Travel Tips

  • Ferries from Singapore to Bintan cost approximately $90-$102 round-trip.
  • Rooms start at 1.85 million rupiah (before taxes).
  • The best travel window is from March to October for drier weather.
  • The resort aims to reopen its former ferry terminal in 2027 for more convenient access.

Being hosted at Movenpick was a great pleasure, and I highly recommend checking out the additional travel stories on str.sg/travel.
