New Cancer Hospital Inaugurated in Patan, North Gujarat
Residents of North Gujarat can now access specialized cancer diagnostics and treatment services closer to home, with the opening of the P.B. Patan Janata Cancer Hospital on Sunday, inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Operated by the Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust, the facility aims to serve cancer patients in Patan and surrounding areas, significantly reducing the need to travel to Ahmedabad for treatment.
Advanced Healthcare Facilities
The hospital has acquired a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine for radiotherapy, costing approximately Rs 22 crore. Additionally, it will be offering Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, a service previously unavailable in the region. Notably, these PET scan services will be provided at no cost to Ayushman Bharat cardholders.
Addressing Health Concerns
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Patel emphasized the growing incidence of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental stress. He highlighted the rising tobacco consumption and addiction issues. Advocating for a balanced lifestyle, he referenced the saying, “Stretch your legs only as far as your blanket allows,” encouraging regular yoga and healthier dietary habits.
He also stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, urging the community to adopt initiatives for a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Addiction-Free India) as promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Environmental Sustainability
Patel highlighted the need for environmental conservation and effective water management to achieve the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. He called on residents to participate in the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign for rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. Additionally, he encouraged tree planting under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative to combat global warming.
Hospital Achievements and Future Plans
Dr. Pramodbhai Patel, managing trustee of the Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust, shared impressive statistics, stating that the Janata Hospital has delivered over 15 lakh outpatient consultations and treated more than 1.5 lakh inpatients, including performing over one lakh surgeries. It has also introduced extensive specialized healthcare services, including dialysis, intensive care, and neurosurgery.
Plans are in place for the expansion of super-specialty services in the coming years, with future offerings including bone marrow and kidney transplantation, robotic surgery, and cardiac surgery, currently unavailable in North Gujarat.
A felicitation ceremony honored the donors who contributed to establishing the cancer hospital, marking a significant step forward in healthcare accessibility for the region.
