A Florida mother has been arrested for child neglect after she left her four children unattended for nearly three days while on a work trip to Las Vegas. Irene Miller, 50, of Kissimmee, was charged with four counts of child neglect without bodily harm after one of her children, a 9-year-old boy, was injured by a dumbbell that fell on him.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), deputies received a 911 call reporting the injury on the evening of October 21. When they arrived, they found that the children, ages 14, 12, 11, and 9, were left unsupervised. The injured child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later discharged.
Miller told deputies she had left for Las Vegas on October 18 and had arranged for a babysitter to come in the mornings, but did not require overnight supervision. The children’s father was contacted and agreed to take the children into his care.
Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated that the OCSO does not tolerate child neglect, and cases like this will be thoroughly investigated. Miller was booked into Orange County jail following her return from Vegas on October 23.
