A woman had a close encounter with a great white shark while on a shark-tagging expedition off the coast of Tybee Island, Georgia. Video footage captured the moment she reached out from a fishing boat to pet the shark, which responded by lunging and thrashing. According to Jimmy Armel, founder of Knot Lucky Fishing, the woman was “never in real danger” as the crew had the shark securely under control. The organization, based in Savannah, provides free fishing trips for veterans and their families, and although they tag great white sharks, this particular shark did not receive a tag due to safety concerns during the encounter.
