Here’s a summary of the upcoming events and initiatives from Pitt County Animal Services and the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina:

Trunk or Treat
- Date & Time: Oct. 17, 1-4 p.m.
- Location: 4550 County Home Road
- Details: Costume-wearing attendees can collect candy and meet shelter dogs. No other animals allowed. Businesses interested in participating can contact Ashley Case at ashley.case@pittcountync.gov or call 252-902-1725.
Fight Night for Pitt Friends
- Date & Time: Oct. 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Location: Rebel Fitness, 3700 Charles Blvd., Suite B
- Cost: $25
- Purpose: Proceeds benefit Pitt Friends.
25th Annual Canine Crawl
- Date & Time: Nov. 1, noon-3 p.m.
- Location: Wildwood Park, 3450 Blue Heron Drive
- Features: Trail crawl, live music, food trucks, vendors, and prize drawings. More info at hsecarolina.org.

Rabies Vaccinations
- Cost: $15 (for dogs and cats)
- Eligibility: Pets must be 4 months or older, and owners must live in Pitt County.
- Appointment Only: 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. (Mon-Thurs). Contact Sherry at Sherry.Sheldon@PittCountyNC.gov or call 252-902-1725.
Kitten Fostering
- Foster homes are needed for kittens, including those needing bottle feeding. Email Ashley at ashley.case@pittcountync.gov or call 902-1725.
Mutt Strutters Program
- Looking for volunteers to walk dogs daily at 9 a.m. (minimum age: 18). For more info, email pcasmuttstrutters@gmail.com.
Foster Homes Needed
- For both cats and kittens. More info at pittfriends.com/get-involved and fostering for cats at Lacey’s Legacy or Feline Freedom Society.
Doggy Day Out
- Volunteers can take dogs on field trips from 9-11 a.m. and return them by 4 p.m. Email for more details at ashley.case@pittcountync.gov or visit PittCountyNC.gov/DoggyDayOut.
Rover Nights
- A sleepover program for dogs. Interested volunteers must contact hsecvolunteer@gmail.com at least 24 hours in advance.
