Affordable Solar Energy Solutions in Southwest Ohio

A new solar co-op initiative in southwest Ohio is providing residents and small organizations with a more affordable way to install rooftop solar panels, with potential savings that can reach up to $1,000 annually for a 5-kilowatt system.

Key Information

The Southwest Ohio 2026 Solar Co-op Program, managed by Cincinnati’s Office of Environment & Sustainability, utilizes a group-purchasing model to help residents, small businesses, and nonprofits in 11 counties access solar energy at competitive prices. Solar United Neighbors, a nonprofit organization, partners with the city to offer education, technical support, and guidance for participants through the process.

Eligible Counties: Clark, Miami, Darke, Preble, Greene, Brown, Clinton, Montgomery, Warren, Clermont, and Hamilton.

Benefits of the Co-op

  • Cost Savings: The co-op structure allows participants to lower upfront costs and receive clearer pricing, making solar energy accessible for families and smaller organizations.
  • Predictable Energy Costs: By adopting solar energy, participants can stabilize their energy expenses and decrease reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Community Collaboration: Interested parties join the co-op as a collective group, allowing a selected installer to offer pricing and service terms that benefit all participants.

Getting Started

Before committing, cohort members can learn about solar technology, financing options, incentives, and installation processes. New members can register until December 1 to be part of this initiative.
