Duke Energy Foundation Awards Grant for Workforce Development in Decatur County

DECATUR COUNTY — The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded a $35,000 grant to the Ivy Tech Foundation, aimed at enhancing workforce development initiatives in Decatur County. This funding is expected to equip Hoosiers with essential skills, address local talent shortages, and bolster workforce needs for growing employers in the region.

Ivy Tech Community College’s Greensburg campus will utilize this grant to broaden workforce training opportunities, certifications, and skill development programs tailored to align with local businesses and industries.

One local business benefiting from this initiative is Shepherd Boy Farms, a Greensburg-based manufacturer known for premium freeze-dried pet food and treats. The company is currently expanding its operations with a second manufacturing facility, which will create new jobs and fortify its presence in Decatur County.

Ashton Hood, founder and CEO of Shepherd Boy Farms, stated, “We’re building a world-class manufacturing operation right here in Greensburg, and that starts with investing in great people. This partnership will help us strengthen our workforce, support employee development, and continue producing premium American-made, farm-to-table natural pet food and treats while creating meaningful jobs in Decatur County.”

Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana, remarked, “Our local business leaders consistently tell us that access to a skilled workforce is critical to the continued growth and success of the communities we serve. That’s why we’re collaborating with Ivy Tech in Greensburg on their efforts to provide specialized training and educational opportunities designed to help local employers develop their workforce.”
