Gail Lerner, co-creator and showrunner of NBC’s upcoming sitcom “Newlyweds,” has been fired just two weeks before the show’s premiere. In an emotional Instagram post, she shared her pride in the project, co-created with Jamie Lee Curtis, while revealing the dismissal was due to “creative differences.” Lerner expressed her sadness at leaving what she described as the most joyous experience of her life, yet highlighted that the initial six episodes were created under her guidance.
Scheduled to debut on October 23, “Newlyweds” features real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, who previously starred together on “Madam Secretary.” The show is described as a light-hearted love story between a free-spirited woman and a reserved professor who marry impulsively. Alongside Leoni and Daly, the cast includes Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O’Neill, and Al Madrigal, with Curtis also serving as an executive producer and recurring guest star.
Lerner ends her post on a hopeful note for the series and its team, while urging viewers to check out the show. The NBC network has been approached for further comments on Lerner’s departure.
