I Journey to France to Share the Message of Christ’s Peace

Pope Leo XIV embarked on his Apostolic Journey to France on September 25, emphasizing his mission to proclaim peace, particularly in the context of today’s global challenges. Upon arriving in Paris, he met with President Emmanuel Macron and addressed civil authorities, highlighting France’s significant cultural and spiritual contributions to humanity. He recognized the nation’s motto of liberty, equality, and fraternity, linking it to the Gospel’s ethical imperatives.

During his visit, Pope Leo discussed the importance of education and ethics in the face of technological progress. He warned against the potential misuse of science when detached from moral guidance and called for genuine dialogue, justice, and a commitment to peace, rather than a mere balance of power.

At UNESCO, he urged a renewed commitment to human dignity and questioned the meaning of being human, emphasizing that education must reach beyond material advancement to encompass life’s deeper meanings. He also touched on the moral implications of technology, particularly regarding its effects on children.

Later, Pope Leo celebrated Vespers at Notre-Dame de Paris, reflecting on its reconstruction as a symbol of hope and reconciliation. He encouraged clergy to foster communal unity and love for the liturgy.

The day concluded with a vibrant gathering of 80,000 young people at the Stade de France, where Pope Leo engaged with them, addressing their concerns about faith, service, and personal commitment. He articulated a vision for peace driven by love, compassion, and unity, urging the youth to embrace values that strengthen their faith and community.
