Garfield Clean Energy Requests $150,000 from County as $2 Million Grant Approaches Approval

Garfield Clean Energy is requesting $150,000 from Garfield County for 2027 to expand its energy efficiency programs, supported by a nearly finalized $2 million grant from the Colorado Energy Office. They aim to improve energy efficiency in public buildings, lower utility bills, and reduce traffic congestion.

At a recent county commissioners meeting, no action was taken on the funding request; instead, it will be reviewed as part of the 2027 budget discussions on October 14.

The grant will fund various projects, including residential and commercial energy efficiency improvements and transportation initiatives, from mid-2029. They anticipate start dates for residential rebates in January 2024.

Programs like ReEnergize Garfield County provide rebates up to $4,000 for qualifying households, focusing on those earning below 150% of the area median income. The organization has already allocated over $365,144 to residents, leading to savings of $100 or more monthly for some households.

Additionally, Garfield Clean Energy has assisted businesses in accessing rebates totaling approximately $75,000, creating utility savings of about $19,000. They also monitor energy consumption at county facilities and promote initiatives to reduce single-occupancy commuting.

The organization’s activities contribute to economic development and energy savings, with county commissioners expressing support for continued funding.
