Prudential Life Insurance Fraud Investigation
A recent third-party investigation has revealed that a corporate culture at Prudential Life Insurance Co. prioritized sales performance excessively, leading employees to defraud customers. The report highlighted challenges for managers in supervising top sales employees, as the culture diminished managerial authority.
In response, the Tokyo-based company plans to overhaul its compensation system—currently geared heavily towards acquiring new contracts—and introduce a guaranteed minimum salary by 2027.
Prudential Life’s President and CEO, Hiromitsu Tokumaru, expressed deep apologies for the issues caused, acknowledging the impact on customer trust. In a bid to take responsibility, Tokumaru and two other executives will voluntarily reduce their salaries by 30% for three months amidst the fallout from the scandal.
