Pet Friendly Services of Indiana and Pets Alive have launched a partnership to enhance access to affordable spay/neuter services in south-central Indiana, backed by a $10,000 investment. This initiative promises to aid up to 400 cats and dogs in receiving spay/neuter surgeries at Pets Alive, a high-volume nonprofit clinic based in Bloomington.
Key Highlights of the Initiative:
-
Transport Assist Pilot Program: This program aims to overcome barriers in accessing spay/neuter care. Eight animal welfare organizations across Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Monroe, and Morgan counties will facilitate transportation and financial assistance for pet owners.
-
Financial Support: Most participating pet owners will be eligible for a $25 discount on surgeries. This discount can be combined to yield up to $50, $75, or more in financial help as needed. Additional funds are available for qualifying pet owners who contact Pets Alive directly.
-
Participating Organizations: The initiative supports various local organizations, including:
- Pets Alive Bloomington
- Bartholomew County Humane Society
- Columbus Animal Care Services
- Brown County Humane Society
- Humane Society of Jackson County
- Feral Cat Friends
- Bloomington Animal Shelter
- Street Cat Community Outreach
Notably, the Bartholomew County Humane Society, Columbus Animal Care Services, and Brown County Humane Society each secured $1,000 grants as part of this initiative.
Conclusion
The collaborative effort aims to enhance spay/neuter accessibility across south-central Indiana, addressing the pet overpopulation issue effectively before animals enter already-overburdened shelters and rescues. By leveraging financial assistance, veterinary resources from Pets Alive, and local outreach from participating organizations, the initiative seeks to create a lasting impact on community welfare for pets.
