In Joe Manganiello’s upcoming memoir, “Bloodlines,” he opens up about a serious autoimmune condition that nearly cost him his life. The book, set for release on October 13, chronicles his Hollywood journey, his marriage to Sofía Vergara, and his significant health challenges.
Despite a flourishing career in the 2010s, Manganiello faced debilitating health issues shortly after his marriage. He described a range of symptoms including severe abdominal pain and fatigue, which led to a major surgery in 2016 where part of his intestines was removed, leaving him with a colostomy bag.
Doctors struggled to diagnose his condition, often prescribing treatments for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis without success. Manganiello also highlighted personal struggles, including the impact on his marriage and a battle with suicidal thoughts.
In search of healing, he explored alternative treatments, including an unusual ritual in Cuba. Ultimately, he found some relief and underwent reconstructive surgery that has left him feeling renewed and grateful for his life.
Manganiello shared, “I can’t believe I’m alive. I feel like I was reborn.”
