Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear, acknowledges his striking resemblance to comedy legend Gene Wilder and is open to portraying him in a biopic. After winning two Emmy Awards for his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, White expressed his admiration for Wilder, citing Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles as influential films from his childhood.
During an appearance on the Today show, he commented, “It would be my honor. He was a genius. I’ve always loved him.” Although he hasn’t received any project offers yet, White remains hopeful, stating, “I need the call. We’ll see—we’re manifesting it.”
Wilder passed away in 2016 at the age of 83 due to Alzheimer’s complications. White has previously played Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. He has also taken on the role of journalist Jeff Horwitz in The Social Reckoning, which recently hit theaters. Despite the acclaim, White admits he hesitated about portraying well-known figures due to the pressure it entails.
Springsteen himself complimented White’s portrayal, saying, “He’s done a great job.”
