Studio Segno’s Latest Superyacht Concept: Maai
Studio Segno has unveiled its newest superyacht concept, Maai, which beautifully fuses Eastern and Western design aesthetics. The name “Maai,” deriving from the Japanese term ma-ai, signifies meaningful spacing and timing, reflecting the yacht’s unique balance of Japanese minimalism and Italian warmth.
Design and Layout
The 154-foot superyacht showcases a distinctive exterior by Giovanni Paszkowski, incorporating layered decks reminiscent of Japanese pavilions and an angular superstructure inspired by katana swords. The interior, designed by Çağla Enginer, features a clean minimalist style adorned with a warm palette and rich wooden elements.
The yacht’s layout divides into two primary zones: quiet, private spaces at the front and lively social areas toward the back. An expansive salon at the center boasts a large dining table, sunken lounge, and a striking staircase leading to the owner’s deck, while the owner’s cabin includes a private terrace with a Jacuzzi. The upper deck features a wellness area perfect for relaxation.
Innovative Features
In a unique twist, the typical beach club area is replaced with a spacious dining and lounge area, serving as the yacht’s social hub. The design includes two fold-out balconies and a drop-down swim platform for direct sea access.
As Studio Segno describes it, “Life on board follows a continuous journey from sunrise, stillness, and privacy at the bow to shared evenings aft.”
Performance and Recognition
Powered by two MAN V-12 engines, Maai promises an estimated top speed of 15.5 knots with a cruising speed of 10 knots. Though still a concept, it has garnered attention and was recently shortlisted at the 2027 International Yacht & Aviation Awards. The awards celebrate craftsmanship within superyacht and private aviation sectors, with the ceremony scheduled in Capri, Italy next May.
