Campaign Launched to Support Pet Care for Meals on Wheels Clients: Food Fur All Initiative

The Council on Aging of Central Oregon has kicked off its annual Food Fur All fundraising campaign to support its Pet Pals program. This initiative provides pet food, supplies, and veterinary care to Meals on Wheels clients throughout Central Oregon. Currently, Pet Pals assists 164 clients with 275 pets across various towns, helping seniors who care for a total of 560 pets since its founding in 2022.

In the past year, Pet Pals expanded to include in-home veterinary visits in collaboration with the Humane Society of Central Oregon and added dental services through FIXbend. This support has been vital for clients like Alan, whose dog, Angel, received necessary dental treatment at no cost.

Executive Director Cassie Regimbal underscored the importance of this program, highlighting the emotional and routine support pets provide to homebound seniors. The program is funded by community donations, grants, and sponsorships, including support from Cascade Natural Gas. The Council, founded in 1975, serves as an Area Agency on Aging for Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties, catering to adults aged 60 and older. Community contributions can be made through direct donations, mail-in checks, or the organization’s Amazon wishlist.
