Michael Douglas has shared insights into a challenging phase of his marriage with Catherine Zeta-Jones in his new memoir, “One Helluva Ride.” The couple, who have been married since 2000 and have two children, temporarily separated in 2013, which Douglas described as an “incredibly difficult” decision influenced by various family challenges.
After returning from a vacation, Douglas and Zeta-Jones realized they needed space to reevaluate their marriage yet maintained a strong love for each other. They made sure their children, Dylan and Carys, understood the separation was not their fault.
While Douglas moved into a nearby rental, he and Zeta-Jones stayed in touch and reunited by 2014. They celebrated their 25th anniversary recently, reflecting on how that tumultuous period ultimately strengthened their bond.
Currently, the couple is trying to sell their historic New York estate, Longmeadow, for $9.75 million, having initially listed it for $12 million in June 2024. They plan to spend more time in Bermuda and Europe, as their family dynamics change.
Douglas now considers Zeta-Jones his best friend and life partner, illustrating how their relationship has evolved and remained resilient through challenges.
