The Emmys Transition from Broadcast Television to Amazon Prime Video | Entertainment

The Emmy Awards will transition to Amazon Prime Video, making the prestigious ceremony available for free streaming starting in September 2027. This six-year agreement replaces the traditional broadcasting rotation among networks like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC, marking a significant shift in how audiences will access the awards.

Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, highlighted the initiative’s global reach, allowing audiences in over 200 countries to watch the event live without needing a subscription. This move ends a long history of television network airings that began in 1955 with NBC.

The partnership also aims to bring new fan engagement opportunities, although specific details on these additions have not yet been disclosed. This agreement is part of a broader trend in which streaming platforms are vying for major live events, similar to the recent announcement that the Oscars will move to YouTube in 2029.

The 2026 Emmys saw a viewer drop to 6.8 million, down 10% from the previous year, emphasizing the need for networks and platforms to innovate in attracting audiences.
