Pet of the Week: Benny – Giving Local Pets a Second Chance
Published: 7:45 am Tuesday, October 6, 2026
Benny, a sweet 4- to 5-year-old Lab mix, has faced more challenges than any dog should. Rescued just in time from euthanasia at the Carthage Panola Pound, he quickly endeared himself to his foster family, who describe him as a joyful companion.
Benny enjoys car rides and loves spending time with his foster siblings. His favorite pastime? Finding a cozy couch to stretch out and relax on. Unfortunately, while at the pound, Benny was discovered to have a limp. X-rays at Marshall Animal Hospital revealed that he had been shot, leaving shrapnel and pellets lodged in his body. The injuries were never treated, and removal of the pellets is too risky, but fortunately, Benny is not in pain. However, he may develop arthritis as he ages due to this old injury.
What Benny truly desires is a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished. He deserves a family that will see beyond his limp and appreciate the wonderful dog he is.
Benny has already overcome many hardships, and now he’s ready for his happily-ever-after. If you think Benny might be the perfect addition to your family, please reach out to learn more. If you can’t adopt, sharing Benny’s story could help him find the loving home he’s been waiting for.
