In Tucson, Arizona, a tragic murder-suicide left nearly 30 animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, abandoned. The Sanctuary Project intervened to find permanent homes for these animals, prioritizing long-term placements over temporary shelters. By leveraging social media, the organization successfully connected the animals with new families.
Amy Cubillas, the founder of The Sanctuary Project, expressed the emotional impact of seeing new pet owners embrace the animals as family members. While some new owners, like Jennifer Acuna and Monika Kozan, faced initial adjustment challenges with their pets, they appreciated the opportunity to offer these animals a safe and loving environment.
Looking ahead, The Sanctuary Project plans to launch a program in December aimed at helping pet owners create contingency plans for their animals in case of unforeseen circumstances.
