The actress revealed her diagnosis on Instagram, stating she received the news while away from home in a Zoom consultation with her doctor, who told her she had DCIS, or Stage 0 breast cancer. This news came just after the premiere of her show, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.
Zimmer described the emotional toll of keeping her diagnosis a secret while promoting the show. Initially, she faced pressure to undergo a mastectomy but eventually found a doctor who offered her a less invasive procedure that allowed her to keep her breast. After three surgeries, she is now cancer-free. She remarked on the significant journey from her hospital experiences to celebrating her Emmy nomination during this challenging time.
