Sal Frelick Discusses Brewers’ Culture Following Game 2 Walk-Off Victory

The Milwaukee Brewers are known for their focus on the fundamentals of the game, and Sal Frelick is a prime example of this ethos. Standing at 5’9″, Frelick excels as a baserunner, defender, and tenacious hitter.

Frelick emphasized the importance of attention to detail during a recent interview, citing practices like cutting the corner properly at third base, which he learned from veteran Christian Yelich. This level of detail was evident in a critical moment during the NLDS when Frelick scored the winning run. Despite trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Frelick loaded the bases with walks alongside Yelich and Gary Sánchez, setting the stage for Jackson Chourio’s decisive single.

Chourio’s hit was intense, but so was the defensive pressure from the Padres. With a 109 MPH hit and a 99 MPH throw from the Padres’ center fielder, it became a close call at home plate. Frelick’s quick decision to cut the corner at third base allowed him to slide safely past the tag attempt by catcher Freddy Fermin, effectively sealing the game for the Brewers and giving them a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.

As they prepare for Game 3, the Brewers expect to start Dustin May, looking to secure a sweep against the Padres and rest while they await their next opponent.
