Plans for two major arts festivals in Bradford are advancing, linked to the legacy of the UK City of Culture year. A new music festival in Bingley and the return of the Bradford Mela are set to be funded through £4.269 million allocated for Bradford 2025’s follow-on program, which is aimed at maintaining cultural engagement until 2030.
The report indicates a significant rise in the local visitor economy, surpassing £1 billion for the first time. However, it raises concerns about the future of Bradford Culture Company Ltd (BCCL), which is questioning its sustainability post-March 2027.
In addition, future cultural funding is expected to increase, with annual support for cultural organizations rising from £590,000 to £700,000 by 2028. Despite this, a recent decision has diverted £400,000 from arts funding to other municipal services, sparking public dissent.
Overall, the ongoing efforts aim to secure Bradford’s position as a key cultural destination, building on the increased visibility and visitor numbers achieved during the City of Culture year.
