Hattiesburg firefighters successfully rescued a dog from a burning home on Ashford Circle in September, utilizing a specialized oxygen mask for animals. According to Hattiesburg Fire Department Chief Chris Carr, body camera footage revealed the dramatic scene, with firefighters responding to a house fully engulfed in flames.
As they conducted a 360-degree walk around the structure, they heard a distressed screeching noise near a window and discovered the dog inside. Firefighters quickly accessed the home, located the unresponsive animal, and brought it outside to administer oxygen. After several minutes, the dog began to show signs of recovery, eventually wagging its tail and regaining full consciousness.
The oxygen masks were donated by the Animal Medical Center of Hattiesburg, allowing the fire department to equip all emergency vehicles with pet-capable oxygen masks. Firefighters recommend that pet owners keep their animals in a single room with the door shut when leaving them alone, providing them additional time in case of emergencies.
Fortunately, no one else was inside the home during the fire, and the last update indicated that the rescued dog was doing well.
