Local celebrities, first responders, and adapted athletes came together at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor for the annual Local Heroes and Celebrity Game, hosted by Bangor Adapted Baseball. This event, now in its fifth year, celebrates local figures and recognizes the contributions of community heroes, including firefighters and former Navy SEALs.
Coach Tyler Parke highlighted the importance of the game as a way to showcase familiar local personalities and acknowledge the sacrifices of community heroes who are often underappreciated. Participants like Ray Quimby described the experience as a confidence-building opportunity, while newcomers like Micheal Mayo expressed excitement about joining in for the first time. Derek Fournier also shared his joy in returning to baseball after several years, emphasizing the fun of reconnecting with the sport.
The event serves to not only entertain but also to foster a sense of community and gratitude for those who serve.
