COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright is set to visit northeast Ohio on Monday to announce a new federal initiative aimed at reducing electricity costs.
Wright will host a press conference in the afternoon at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant, located along Lake Erie in Lake County, as per a statement from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Details of the announcement remain undisclosed, but officials indicate that the initiative will focus on lowering consumer energy costs and enhancing grid reliability.
The Perry facility, one of Ohio’s two commercial nuclear plants (the other being Davis-Besse near Toledo), has been crucial in meeting the rising power demand driven by significant growth in central Ohio, including new manufacturing facilities and data centers.
Additional speakers will accompany Wright at the event, though their identities have not yet been revealed.
