Russian Drone Attack Targets Energy Facility in Poltava Oblast, Causes Power Outage for 22,000 Residents

On October 4, a Russian drone strike hit an energy facility in Poltava Oblast, resulting in around 22,000 people losing electricity, according to regional officials. Poltava Oblast Governor Vitalii Diakyvnych announced that crews from Poltavaoblenergo are working to restore power, with no casualties reported so far.

This incident follows another drone strike just two days earlier in the Lubny district, which affected approximately 6,000 consumers. Poltava Oblast, a significant gas-producing area in Ukraine, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks. Reports indicate that in March, Russian strikes impacted Naftogaz facilities for three consecutive days, resulting in one death.

As winter approaches, Russia has intensified its assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, focusing on power generation and gas facilities nationwide. This campaign mirrors last winter’s efforts, which led to widespread outages and heating issues. However, this season, the attacks seem broader in scope, also targeting critical infrastructure such as bridges in Kyiv.
