The Malate Church in Manila celebrates St. Francis of Assisi’s feast day on October 4 with a special blessing for pets. As the patron saint of animals and ecology, St. Francis is honored by many parishes that hold community animal blessings on the first Sunday of October. At Malate Church, pet owners brought various animals—including dogs, cats, and even a snail—for blessings. Father Leonito Distor highlighted the significance of this connection to St. Francis, while pet owners expressed appreciation for their animal companions. Additionally, the church provided free pet vaccinations in the parking lot.
