Michael O’Keefe recently opened up about his experiences on the set of the classic 1980 film “Caddyshack.” In an interview with Page Six, the 71-year-old actor shared that cocaine was prevalent during the film’s production and was even included in the budget as a “miscellaneous item.” He described the culture of the 1970s, where drug use was commonplace and often trivialized.
Reflecting on his drug use at the time, O’Keefe admitted he performed cocaine before shooting certain scenes, which he now views as a regrettable decision. He stated that the experience served as a “huge wake-up call” for him, especially after the tragic death of Doug Kenney, the film’s co-writer, in 1980.
Despite his past with drugs, O’Keefe has had a successful career, having previously starred in “The Great Santini,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He is best remembered for his role as Danny Noonan in “Caddyshack” and has expressed a desire for his other work to be recognized as well.
