Zygi Kamasa’s True Brit Entertainment Seeks Administration Filing

True Brit Entertainment Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

EXCLUSIVE: True Brit Entertainment, the UK theatrical distributor co-founded by former Lionsgate executive Zygi Kamasa, has effectively filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company, known for distributing films such as Hugh Jackman’s The Death of Robin Hood, has appointed administrators at Simons Muirhead Burton to oversee its affairs.

Founded in 2023 with backing from Three Six Zero, a talent management company that represents high-profile stars like Calvin Klein and FKA Twigs, True Brit aimed to focus exclusively on British feature films and television. It has distributed titles such as Giant, Marching Powder, and Sunny Dancer, and has a stake from Marv Studios, co-founded by Matthew Vaughn.

In a statement, Kamasa remarked: “In extremely challenging market conditions, the company has taken the difficult decision to enter administration.” He added that an independent specialist would oversee the company to assess the best options available for achieving a favorable outcome for both the company and its creditors.

The UK administration process functions similarly to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S., but differs in that directors do not retain control of the business. Instead, Simons Muirhead Burton will manage True Brit’s operations and aim to facilitate its financial restructuring to satisfy creditors.

Kamasa, who has extensive experience in the film industry, previously served as CEO of Lionsgate UK and Europe and Marv Studios Group. He has been instrumental in the release of over 40 British titles, including Bend It Like Beckham, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Brooklyn, Eddie the Eagle, and The Father.
