Sacramento’s Greek Festival Brings Food, Music, and Culture
The 63rd annual Greek Festival is happening now at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento, running through Sunday. This festive occasion offers a plethora of authentic cuisine, vibrant music, and cultural experiences.
Highlights of the Festival:
- Location: Located near McKinley Park on Alhambra Boulevard.
- Activities: The festival features vendor booths, live music, and cultural traditions, providing something for everyone.
Rev. Fr. Vincent Minucci, the presiding priest, expressed his enthusiasm:
“My favorite thing to do is inside of the hall. I like to spoon gigantes, which are delicious giant lima beans, for the wonderful people that come through here.”
For food lovers, the gyro booth is a must-visit. Niko Avdis, co-chair of the gyro booth and a festival veteran of over 50 years, emphasized the skill involved in preparing genuine gyros:
“If you go to Greece today, it’s the traditional street food… It’s also one of the more grueling booths to be working at.”
Fr. Minucci also shared his top picks:
“My favorite food here is the gyro… but I also love spanakopita, our spinach pie with feta cheese wrapped in filo.”
Beyond the food, the festival celebrates community and culture. Minucci underscores this sentiment:
“We are a beautiful community of faith and love, welcoming everyone to enjoy our hospitality and learn more about who we are.”
Event Information:
- Closing Times: Ends Saturday at 10 PM and Sunday at 8 PM.
- Admission: $5; free for children 12 and under and bicyclists all weekend.
